We at Rokeby Park have our own film club. In our film club we go through the stages of making our own extremely low budget movies. The children think of an idea then we story board it. We don't necessarily need to write a script; as we only have a limited amount of weeks to do the film and only an hour a week we leave most of the lines in the movie to adlibbing. When it comes to filming the film the children take control of the camrea and we show them when the best camera angles for the type of shot, but in the end it's how they want to film it; it's their film.
Post production is the longest and hardest part of the film making process. Here the children learn to put their movie together using Windows Movie Maker. Using this program they add effects, music and transitions to their movie to create the best finshed product.
This is the first film written, directed and produced by the children at Rokeby Park. Obviously given our budget we can't make a film that takes place out side the school grounds so the children have had to write a film that takes place in school.
Next we had to choose a genre; the children had to decide what type of film they were going to film, in then end they decided it was going to be a horror(ish)/comedy.
The basic story line of the film is that there is a new boy in school. He seems normal enough, but when strange things start happening when he's around people start to question how normal he really is. But is it him or could it be the strange 'Timestopper Tony' that is following him around?
Since the success of 'The New Kid' in the school alot more children have been interested in joining the Rokeby Park Film Club. As a result of this we now have 2 films in production. One of our new productions is a documentary on the floods that happened in June 2007, which seriously affected our school. The other film is an original movie about the school getting a new head teacher, which seems cool at first but it quickly turns around.
