The Enchanted oak tree
In a faraway land there was an enchanted, but dangerous forest. And in that magical wood, right in the middle in fact, there was an oak tree. No ordinary oak tree no, no, this oak was gigantic! Magical! And if you broke off even the tiniest leaf a light soooooo strong would come and suck you into the tree! Don't believe me? Well then I'll tell you the story of how this happened to me.
* * *
One day a girl called India (me) was walking through this enchanted wood when a branch fell on my head. "Ouch", I said. Suddenly a gleaming light opened and I got sucked into the tree!!!
I found myself in a world of pixies. I noticed a bigger pixie at the edge and wandered over to him.
"what are you doing here little girl?" he asked. " I,I", I stammered, too scared to move. " Don't explain", he said again in a very angry voice indeed. Then he whistled twice and another pixie came, "show her around, as she will be staying for ever!" the king ( evil pixie) said. "Yes sir, come", the elf said in a rather high pitched voice. We squeezed through the other pixies till we got to the other side of the room. "Here we are", said the pixie and held out a whole bunch of keys. Immediately he chose a key and pushed it in the hole and opened the door. Inside there were rows and rows of cages. The pixie grabbed hold of me and started to climb a ladder right up to the top. Then he shoved me in and locked me up. There were lots of other children in the cages. There was one woodcutter who said he tried to get a bit of wood but he just fell in. I was very tired so I decided to go to sleep. There were no pillows, duvets or mattresses to sleep on, just a hard wet floor.
In the morning (although I didn't know it was morning, it was just a long time) everyone was awake. A girl next to me called Anna started talking to me,
"How long have you been here?"
"I've just got here," I answered back. "How long have you been here?"
"Two months," she answered. "I was only looking for a stick and it fell on my head."
"That happened to me too."
"And me," said another boy. "It happened to everybody."
"We've got to plan our way out of here. Anyone got any ideas?"
The woodcutter put up his hand.
"When the next person comes in here, we could try to get the keys from the pixie. And then I could try and make my way out and rescue everyone else".
"Then all we’ve got to do is get past Devmoo. He's the evil king."
"I know exactly how to do it."
After a good nights rest another boy came. I managed to hook the keys off the pixie's jacket without him noticing. I unlocked the padlock from my cage door and then unlocked everybody else. After a while another pixie came in to check on us. The woodcutter attacked him and stole his clothes and gave them to me to wear. I went outside and attacked another pixie and stole his clothes and gave them to Anna. After a while we had just the right amount of clothes. Then we managed to sneak out without Devmoo noticing. We all ran back to our houses and met up with our parents again. They were very pleased to see us but also very worried. We told them the whole story and never went near the oak tree again.
