Rebecca's winning entry in the 2008 Show Racism the Red Card competition ...
“Red Card Rap”
Just because I have a different colour face,
It don’t have to mean that I’m from another place,
Black is just a colour, it aint no disgrace,
Just another human being in the human race.
So if we find a trail and trace all the hate,
We can see that it gathers in the same old place,
In the idiotic people who are just a disgrace,
To all the decent human beings in the human race.
And just because I might look different to you,
You look different to me but I aint gona screw,
We’re all people inside and you know that’s true,
And if you don’t see that then you aint got a clue.
And 1 may just have a weird religion to you,
But I respect your style, you should respect mine too.
I could be African or Chinese — what’s it to you?
And if I’m Indian or French then the same goes too.
And we all know that racism — it aint right,
And yo — I’d just like to ask a question if I might?
Don’t we all have the right to live a happy life
Without discrimination in the form of words and fights?
We should all try to strive for a better way of life,
Come together all in sight, stand together and fight.
Cos just because you’re white it don’t make it right,
Just because I’m black I don’t have to take crap.
Because when the lights are out then we’re all the same,
The question really is who’re the ones to blame?
The fools who think that hatred is all fun and games,
Man you should be ashamed for being so lame.
Racism — it’s just a waste of time,
It causes offence and it’s also a crime.
So don’t be cruel just play it cool,
’Cos if you think it’s cool then you’re just a fool!
So believe, there really aint no need to be racist,
It really doesn’t matter what colour your face is.
