My Great Escape

My Great Escape

My Great Escape

My name is Bart. No not Bart Simpson!
My name is Bart Sampson I am 11 years old and I live in a quiet North Yorkshire village called Hunmanby.
HUNMANBY was torn apart by the Magna Carta being burnt...

This is where my story begins. I was going for a pleasant stroll in the park when I discovered this piece of paper so I took it to the local museum. The museum curator examined it and he told me it was something he had being looking for all his life! So he offered me one hundred thousand pounds. Instead I thought I should give up the offer and find a higher price for the piece of paper. So I held onto it and took it to my Dad. My Dad promised to find out the name of it. So I waited over night.

The next morning my Dad woke me up at six am and told me it was called the Magna Carta………… there was silence because I was doing it in history.

Later on that morning I went to the public library and asked them if they had books on the Magna Carta. She replied “No the museum curator took them all out”. “OH! I nearly forgot to give you this it’s from the museum curator”. “He told me to tell you to open it straight away.”

I opened it eagerly to see what it said. The letter said:

Dear Bart Sampson I am going to take the Magna Carta while you sleep and I’m going to burn it because you didn’t take me up on that offer of one hundred thousand pounds.

WARNING SO YOU DON’T GIVE THIS LETTER TO THE POLICE THE MESSEAGE WILL SELFDESTRUCT IN 5 SECONDS.

Whoops! The timer started to go and the message started to disintegrate. When the timer had stopped all that was left was lots of tiny pieces of rubber in my hand.

I felt so scared. So I ran home as fast as I could to tell my dad about the message. When I arrived home and told my dad about the letter and showed him the disintegrated bits of rubber he started to laugh because he didn’t believe a word that I said. So he took the Magna Carta and put it into a safe and told me go up stairs and go to sleep. Later that night the museum curator took the Magna Carta and burned it and put the ashes back into the same safe.

The following morning I woke up and ran down stairs to see the Magna Carta. I was so upset to see something worth one hundred thousand pounds burnt before my eyes. Did you think it was really the Magna Carta I gave to my dad……………………………??
